Frontier Airlines cancelled flight refund: your rights and how to claim

Frontier is an ultra-low-cost US carrier flying domestically and to nearby international destinations, so a cancellation is governed by US Department of Transportation rules.

Refund, not compensation

A refund returns what you paid; the EU’s fixed compensation (EUR 250-600) has no US equivalent and Frontier’s network doesn’t trigger EU261.

US DOT rules

If Frontier cancels your flight, or makes a significant change (3+ hours domestic, airport change, added connection, downgrade) and you decline the alternative, you’re entitled to a full refund to your original payment method — including on non-refundable fares and bundle fees for services not provided. There is no statutory cash compensation in the US.

A practical note for ultra-low-cost fares: don’t accept a credit by default, and keep records of any extras you paid for.

How to get a refund from Frontier

  1. Request a refund to your original payment method, not a voucher.
  2. Use Frontier’s online refund request or contact the airline, stating the cancellation and that you decline rebooking.
  3. Keep the cancellation notice, confirmation code and receipts for paid extras.
